A charitable organisation has been founded to provide adventure play facilities in Watford and across Hertfordshire.

Hertfordshire Community Play Projects (HCPP) is a community initiative set up in response to Watford Borough Council’s decision to close the staffed adventure playgrounds at Harebreaks and Harwoods.

The main aims of the project are to promote children’s right to play, to promote social inclusion, and to advance the physical and mental health of children and young people.

Play worker Libby Truscott said: "The charity has been created by the community because we recognise there is a continuing need for staffed play provision in the area.

“The SWAPs (Save Watford’s Adventure Playgrounds) campaign was unable to save the adventure playgrounds but the new charity is actively seeking funding to run projects dedicated to enabling children to play freely in their communities."

Consultations to decide what kind of provision will be provided by the group, and where, are due to begin early next year.
