Christian Kabasele insists the Hornets do not have a disciplinary problem and believes the team should focus on getting back on track with a victory over Everton tomorrow.

The Hornets have had a player sent off in their last two defeats – with Miguel Britos and Roberto Pereyra dismissed – while the club have picked up 35 yellow cards – the second highest in the top flight this season, behind West Ham.

But defender Kabasele insists Watford are not a dirty team and does not think the players should be worried about their discipline.

Kabasele said: “We try to play the best way that is possible. The referee made his decision so we don’t go on the field to get red or yellow cards. We try to play our game and after it’s the referee’s decision.”

When asked if the team had been harshly treated in recent games, he replied: “I don’t really know. I think the games are gone and we can’t go back to the referee’s decision but we need to be focused on the next game.

“Our goal is to be good on the field and the referee tried to make the best decisions possible. We don’t need to think about this at the moment. We need to fight to get the three points back.”

Watford have slipped down to 11th following defeats to Stoke and West Brom.

The Hornets host Everton in the early game tomorrow and Kabasele knows the significance of claiming a win.

He said: “It is important because when you start to lose a lot of points like this you can go down the ranking and after you need to really look behind you at what’s going on.

“We need to try to get the three points back very fast like this weekend. We don’t want to consider the teams behind us for the moment so it’s a big challenge for us now.”

Everton’s form is poor, with three successive away defeats, but Kabasele is not taking them lightly.

He said: “I think in the Premier League there is never a good time to play against a team. We won against Leicester and then the week after we lost against Stoke so there is no good time to play against one team.

“We just need to be focused on our work and our physical game to be at 100 per cent to have a good result.”

Kabasele’s international team-mate Romelu Lukaku remains a key threat despite the Belgian going four league games without a goal.

The defender said: “I know him but not very well from the national team. He’s a very good player and what he’s doing is impressive.

“He’s one of the best strikers in this league and we need to be focused and try to keep him out of the box as much as possible.”

Watford’s weakness in the air was exposed again at West Brom as they conceded a league-high 11th goal from a cross.

The 25-year-old said: “We are working on everything, especially set-pieces because we conceded a lot of goals from this.

“Personally it was me last week and I didn’t win my challenge and another time it’s a different player so I think it’s more a question to be focused 100 per cent to win these balls in the box and try to clear it. But we are working every day on it to try to find the solution.”
