League tables for schools across the country have been released, leaving eager parents scouring the data to see where their child’s school ranked.

This is the first year schools have been judged according to the Progress 8 measure, which assesses how far pupils have progressed between leaving primary school and finishing secondary school.

Ministers claim this is a fairer way of ranking schools than the old method, which was based on the proportion of students getting five or more C grade GCSEs including maths.

According to statistics from the Department of Education, St Margaret’s School in Bushey achieved the highest Attainment 8 score in the Watford area, measuring a score of 67.7 – well above the national average of 48.5.

Watford Grammar School for Boys was close behind in second place with a score of 66.6, shortly followed by Watford Grammar School for Girls on 64.2.

Rickmansworth School was fourth in the Watford area with 56.2, followed by Queens’ School on 55.7.
