The sudden passing of Graham Taylor was a shock to everyone and the fans on Saturday did him proud.

However, it was just awful to see the current players’ so-called display. It was a disgrace to GT’s memory – no passion, no pride, no commitment, no motivation individually, or as a team, and more importantly no game plan.

Watford Observer:

With the exception of Deeney and Gomes (and Cleverley as he has just returned), there is clearly no pride in pulling on a Watford shirt – obviously just pay the cheque will do. The players seem to fail to recognise that in one week they earn more than the majority of fans would earn in a year! I agree with Deeney’s comment that Saturday “was about Graham” but to say the result didn’t matter? GT would have been furious at such a comment. And what about the lack of performance? The players say that our supporters are fantastic and lift them at times when things are not going so well. Saturday was the squad’s choice to repay the fans for their support, perhaps if they had given the fans something to cheer they would have been more supportive. It felt like it didn’t matter, not based on that half-hearted display anyway.

As for Mazzarri – what is it that you do with the players all week? No corner or free kick plans, perhaps this does not matter in Serie A but can someone please inform him and the Pozzos that this is the English Premier League, where set plays are very important. And a game plan is too. There appears to be no tactical awareness of the opposition or strategy of what our own players should be doing or trying to achieve. If there is then it must be lost in translation!

There is no connection or passion shown by Walter towards the club. This was never more clearly shown than when he admitted last week that he had only just read up on GT’s achievements at Watford after his death. I am all for what you wish to achieve and looking forward, but the history of any football club is an integral part of understanding its very essence.

I would particularly like to mention the Middlesborough fans who were a credit to their club and football in general.

Unfortunately it looks as if we will be fighting for our Premiership lives this year with the lack of game plan, strategy and passion shown on Saturday. The Pozzos have done amazing things for our club, for which we are all grateful. However, we have just lost the club’s heartbeat and as a long standing fan I hope and pray you have the vision, passion and drive of Mr Taylor to lead Watford forward. This means not just on the field but also in the community and the football world.

Watford FC is not just about the football. GT, Elton and the board set the bar very high when they turned the club around. Basing its very roots in the heart of the community. Yes, football is an integral part of this but family, fairness, morals and supporting the area within which the club is based is essential too. A hard task to live up to, but please do not be the ones to destroy all the hard work that has been done before. As a club we owe that to this great man, Graham Taylor.
