A former Watford Grammar student has launched an app to enable you to locate the various fitness events in your area from the same source: RaceDate.
Tim Colebrooke, 35, spent 10 years in the RAF after leaving school. Moving from base to base he began to get frustrated with searching the internet to find out what sporting events were happening in the area.
“You’ll have this weekend free and what do you do? You need a way to quickly get into a new routine in a new location.
“In order to find sporting events I had to trawl through several sites, especially if you do more than one sport. There’s no one place to see all the things that are going on and some sites don’t show you on a map.
“If you’re travelling and only available on specific days and at specific locations it’s hard to find what’s going on. If you have a tool that tells you to pack your bike because there’s a cycling event happening where you’re going then it helps you look forward to what you’re doing a bit more."
Tim, who now lives in Edinburgh after leaving the RAF and founding an air crew contacting company, comes home to his parent’s house in Watford quite a lot and so I asked him what sporting adventures were available in our local area.
“There’s always something in Cassiobury Park: Race for Life, fun runs, half marathons and all that sort of thing. You just put in the date and the distance you’re willing to travel and the app will definitely bring up something.”
Available via iTunes, with an Android version launching in the spring.
