After 20 years of campaigning by a train users group, the running hours of the Abbey Line between Watford and St Albans have been extended later into the evening.

Since December 11, London Midland has been running one additional return trip every night of the week.

The last departure from Watford Junction is now 10.21pm on Monday to Saturday, and 11.04pm on Sunday.

The last departure from St Albans Abbey is now 10.42pm on Monday to Saturday, and 11.26pm on Sunday.

The Abbey Flyer Users’ Group has been calling for later trains between Watford and St Albans for two decades, and continues to campaign for further investment in the St Albans Abbey branch line.

The group is aiming to get services extended until midnight or beyond, to match that of London Overground and Thameslink lines, but urges train users to utilise the later services in order to demonstrate their worth to London Midland.
