A video of an amateur stuntman wearing a balaclava and “drift triking” around the intu Centre while being chased by security guards has gone viral.

Posted by “Joe Rackley – Professional Idiot” on his Facebook page, the short video shows a number of tricycle riders speeding round various Watford and Rickmansworth locations, setting off speed cameras and generally causing mischief.

Dubbed “drift triking” because of the sliding sideways motion achieved on the low-profile vehicles, the practice gained national media notoriety earlier this year when videos emerged of the group racing at Cheddar Gorge, Somerset.

However Joe said clips showing the trikers approaching oncoming traffic were taken out of context, and detailed how he and his team do their utmost to maintain safety when undertaking their runs.

He said: “When we trike on open roads, we try and use quiet roads. There’s a few in Europe and a spot in Wales that we go to where there’s hardly any traffic. The tow car will drive down with a radio and stop cars from coming up while we come down.

“Some spots like Cheddar Gorge are a bit too busy to stop traffic so we put signs out and have spotters on corners.

“I wasn’t too fussed about being vilified on the news as it just means more publicity, which can only be a good thing. For every comment saying ‘these idiots deserve to die’, there’s another comment saying ‘where do I buy one?’

“The intu run we made pretty safe by doing it first thing in the morning midweek so it was as quiet as possible.

“Fair play to the security guard for trying to grab me but he wasn’t very convincing in his authority.”

The video has already been shared more than 12,000 times online and viewed a whopping 929,000 times.

Joe’s Facebook page lists him as a “part-time stuntman, full-time wasteman, spring time snowboarder, alone time skateboarder, fun time drift triker, good times wine drinker”.
