I’m afraid Mike Jackson is at it again. He’s still claiming Labour were about to build a new hospital in Watford but were stopped when they lost power in 2010.

The fact is, of course, that they were in power for 13 years and did nothing. Not only that but the town had a Labour MP, Claire Ward.

In fact the progress that has been made is almost entirely due to the efforts of the Lib Dem administration in the face of opposition from the Labour party.

They bitterly opposed making land available for the hospital and also opposed new homes and jobs into the bargain.

A couple of years ago there was a glimmer of hope that Labour had entered the real world when, at a cabinet meeting, their leader Nigel Bell said the finances of the scheme were tight, agreeing that all elements were essential to make it work.

Since then they have retreated into a totally unreal position which, had they been successful, would have scuppered any hope of a redeveloped hospital, stopped new homes being built, jobs being created and a new park being created on derelict land.
