A park in the heart of Bushey Heath is undergoing extensive improvements in time for summer despite neighbours concerns.

Mary Forsdyke Garden and Warren Lake will close on February 20 as improvements to the planting, footpaths, signage, lake and tree works are carried out, as well as the introduction of a wildflower meadow.

Hertsmere Borough councillor Brenda Batten said: “This is a lovely open space with a formal garden, bird bath sculpture and lake land walk, but to preserve it for future generations, improvement work needs to be carried out.

“These enhancements will be of benefit to everyone in Bushey Heath and the surrounding areas.”

Many neighbours have become concerned about the park developments and believe dogs will not be allowed in the park.

Although the park closes in February, work will be carried out in stages. The grounds will be prepared, tree work to remove deceased specimens and plant new trees, including a permanent Christmas tree for the town, and work to de-silt the lake will take place during February.

Watford Observer:

March will see the whole path network improved and a boardwalk installed across the lake. A new section of path will be added to allow walkers to avoid the steep incline around the lake.

Planting and landscaping, including the wildflower meadow to provide changing blasts of colour and additional wildlife habitat will take place during April and the gardens will have a few weeks to bed in before the park reopens in May.

Cllr Batten said: “The work will greatly improve the park for everyone to enjoy. As well as work to the landscaping and habitat, we will be improving the welcoming entrances, and introducing some new map and signage, which gives information about the park.

“I look forward to seeing it in spring, when the park will be coming to life with new growth.”
