Watford man Sairus Evans kept police at bay outside his home for three hours before finally giving himself up.

Evans, who was armed with a knife, had terrorised members of his own family at the house in Romilly Drive forcing them to flee from the property.

When the 24-year-old finally surrendered to the the police he told them how a family dispute had got out of hand telling officers "I have mental health issues and I'm in desperate need of help"

At St Albans Crown Court on Friday, Evans pleaded guilty to affray and damaging property on January 4 this year.

Recorder John Coffee QC hearing the case was told that during the dispute he had thrown objects around the living room and grabbed and pushed family members.

At one point he had picked up a knife and cut up his own trainers and gone outside to slash the tyres of a relative's car.

Recorder adjourned the sentencing telling Evans he wanted a pre-sentence report prepared so he had more information about him.

The hearing was adjourned for three weeks while the probation service prepare the report and Evans was remanded in custody.

He will be back in court on March 3.
