Plans for a statue of Graham Taylor outside the scene of his greatest triumphs now seem to be set in motion.
It was right for both the football club, the fans and the Observer to maintain a respectful distance during the mourning period following his death, allowing Graham’s family time and space to reflect on his passing.

And we must remember that, despite our claims for sole ownership of Watford’s favourite son, Graham meant much more to his loved ones than he ever could to his adoring fans.
However it is also appropriate to let the Hornets faithful show their appreciation for their hero, and the groundswell of support for a monument outside Vicarage Road has now turned into a torrent.
I would urge all Watford fans, young and old, to get behind the campaign. He gave so much to the club; it’s time to give him something in return.
