On 27th January 2017, Greater Anglia train services on the Great Eastern Mainline were severely delayed with most trains cancelled due to overhead line problems. The lines were down until nearly noon.

Several thousands of commuters could not go to work and some including a man in Essex was refused a day’s pay. A lot of commotion was created along the entire line.

Some commuters had to get to work and had to take crowded alternative routes. They had to go as far as stations such as Brentwood to catch trains that go into London.

Most commuters have not been happy by the value for money. One commuter in Chelmsford moaned: “I pay £450 a month to Greater Anglia for the most appalling service that you could get. Half the time, I am never able to sit down on the train!”

This commotion had put severe strain on the roads and buses. The A12 was jammed after severe congestion causing delays of up to 30 minutes. This meant that a lot of Ford employees could not get to work from neighbouring town and cities which meant that important business meetings had to be cancelled. Severe strain was also put on inter-town bus services which meant that a lot of regular passengers could not get to work within towns again resulting in precious money being lost by individuals and businesses.

Greater Anglia have kindly apologised fore the disruption caused and encourage passengers to use their delay repay service to claim money back for the inconvenience. However, what is going to happen to the time lost?
