A former Premier League footballer who played for Watford is due to appear in court tomorrow charged with two serious offences.

Allan Smart, 42, of Woodstock Road, Oxford, will appear at Swindon Crown Court tomorrow (Friday).

It is alleged that on April 17 last year, Smart wounded someone with intent. He has also been charged with an assault by beating on June 17.

Smart, who joined the Hornets in 1998 and made 56 appearances for the club, is due to enter a plea to the two charges tomorrow.

Wounding with intent is a serious offence that carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
