Plans to replace an old doctor’s surgery with a new facility plus several flats have been submitted.

The application outlines proposals to demolish the Holywell Surgery on Tolpits Lane and build a four-storey block of nine flats in its place.

A replacement surgery would be built on “underused” space facing Tolpits Lane. No works are proposed for the adjacent parade of shops.

According to the planning application, the demolition of the surgery would remove a “poorly designed” building and provide slightly more floorspace in the new facility, which would remain open during construction works.

The housing block will consist of two one-bed and seven two-bed properties, with a car parking space provided for each. The surgery will have three dedicated parking spaces.

The freehold of the doctor’s surgery and adjacent shops was purchased from Watford Borough Council by UDAG Ltd in March 2016.

The application is currently pending consideration.
