One always knows when Labour are desperate as you get a personally attacking letter like that from Erine Mackenzie in last week’s Observer.

He claims that the Liberal Democrats are responsible for the disgraceful state of our highways yet of course as he and the Labour Party know it’s the Conservatives who have run County Hall since 1999 that are.

The article in the North Watford Focus he refereed to highlighted, as did the ‘Observer’, on 6th January, a shoddy repair job in Chillcot Road. The County Council as a result have now agreed to come back and do a proper job.

Mr Mackenzie then goes on decry the cut in highway maintenance budgets by the Conservatives but blames me and the Liberal Democrats!

How far from realty is he, perhaps he reading too many Trump tweets!

It’s on record that in every alterative budget Liberal Democrats have proposed at County Hall, including this year, we have planned extra spending on roads and footways. This year an additional £7m. But as in most years our costed plans were voted down.

Now Mr Mackenize what did Labour propose? Well not a penny extra on our roads but they did suggest an extra £1.5m on cycleways! Mind you at least this year they backed our budget bid unlike last year when they refused to !

If residents in May’s County Elections want alternate to shoddy repairs and more spent on fixing out infrastructure then it’s the Liberal Democrat who will deliver it!
