A man has been handed a prison sentence after admitting keeping a brothel in Watford.

Back in November, police officers raided a property on Market Street following complaints of anti-social behaviour and concerns that it was being used as a brothel.

They arrested 57-year-old Sydney Walsh on suspicion of managing a brothel and possession of class A (cocaine) and class B (cannabis) drugs.

Walsh admitted one count of control prostitution for gain, and one count of keeping a brothel, at Harrow Crown Court on February 10.

Five further counts were ordered to rest on file.

Walsh was sentenced to 12 months in prison for keeping a brothel – reduced from 18 months for submitting an early guilty plea – and nine months for the control prostitution offence. He will serve both sentences concurrently.
