It will be a family affair at a Watford supermarket this Mother’s Day as eight mums work side-by-side with their children.

Among the eight family pairings are Carole Willoughby and Andrea Dettmer, who have worked with each other at the Asda store on St Albans Road for more than 16 years.

In total the eight families have notched up more than 197 years of service at Asda, of which Carole and Andrea alone have contributed 41 years.

Proud mother Carole said: “I love working for Asda and have the added bonus of being able to work alongside my daughter – how lucky am I?

“Not only do we work in the same store, we also both work on the checkouts, so I am always able to glance over my shoulder and see Andrea – it always puts a smile on my face.

Andrea added: "I love working with my mum – we always find time to catch up and we haven’t fallen out yet.

“We have worked together for more than 16 years now and both love it – I wouldn’t change my job for anything.”

Chris Good, general store manager at Asda Watford, said: “You know what they say: blood is thicker than water, and we can certainly vouch for that here.

“It’s absolutely fantastic and there is such a strong, traditional family-feel to the store, which is something you don’t always find in many retail environments in this modern day.

“All eight families are absolutely great and genuinely love working side by side in the store, and we love having them.”
