A team of intrepid reporters from Watford Grammar School for Boys spent a day sourcing, developing and writing their own news stories as part of the BBC’s School Report Day.

On Thursday March 16, 18 boys from Years 9 and 10, guided by English teacher Ms Sklar, spent the day coming up with a written news article to fit the theme of “The XX, by the XY”.

Last year’s reports on “Science in the News” ended up receiving national attention, with several BBC television and radio stations picking up on the boys’ reporting.

The students are hoping that this year’s stories will be just as newsworthy.

Courtney Sklar, second in English and teacher in charge of the BBC School News Report activity at the school, said: “Lots of our students aspire to become journalists one day, so the BBC School Report Day is a brilliant opportunity every year to put those news gathering and reporting skills to the test.

“The boys are looking forward to giving their perspective on women’s issues, and I’m sure the resulting articles will make fascinating reading.”
