A scathing attack on the quality of road repairs carried out by a council contractor has been launched by a councillor who says its efforts are “an utter farce”.

Councillor Asif Khan has accused Ringway – the company which carries out highways work Hertfordshire County Council – of not repairing dangerous potholes around The Harebreaks in an acceptable timeframe.

He continues that, when they do eventually get round to carrying out repair works, they “just tip in tarmac hoping that will solve the issue”.

“The repairs need to be done properly as people will get hurt, especially cyclists,” he said.

“I have reported tens of potholes on The Harebreaks alone, and one has rocks coming out of it now. It still hasn’t been filled.

“It’s just not on, and an utter farce.”

Kevin Carrol, Ringway divisional manager, said all potholes reported to Ringway were assessed and repaired permanently, wherever possible, on the first visit.

He added: “On this occasion, the recently reported pothole in The Harebreaks has been temporarily repaired to make the road safe, and follow up permanent repair works are planned.

“The follow up permanent repair works will require a road closure to undertake them safely.”
