Proposals to demolish a garage court to make way for a two-storey block of flats has been described as “overcrowding”.

The plans for Buttermere Place, in Linden Lea, involve the demolition of the existing lock-up garages and the construction of a single, two-storey block containing six flats.

However objectors have claimed the road is already congested, and that building further properties “will only make matters worse”.

Another homeowner commented: “The siting of this will be an intrusion into the privacy of existing residents in both Buttermere Place and Haines Way overlooking properties on both sides.

“It will also add to what is already a hugely congested area for traffic and parking issues.”

With the exception of the blocks of flats at Buttermere Place and the three-storey houses fronting Linden Lea, the surrounding area is characterised by terraces of two storey houses.

The new building work will affect those living on Buttermere Place, Linden Lea and Haines Way.

Letters were sent to 14 properties on these three roads informing them of the proposal – there have so far been seven objections and one household in support of the project.

One letter of support said: ‘’The garage area is very unsightly, and this development will greatly improve the aesthetics of Buttermere Place.”

A decision on the scheme will be made by Watford Borough Council’s development management committee on Wednesday April 19.
