Neighbours have described their shock at the death of a teenager who lived in their street.

A 16-year-old girl went in to cardiac arrest and died in Barnhurst Path, South Oxhey, on Monday afternoon.

An air ambulance landed in nearby Greenfields Primary School, Ellesborough Close, but the girl died at the scene.

Further details about the girl have not yet been released.

Christine and Joseph Henderson, who live opposite, described their shock and sadness at what happened.

Mrs Henderson said: “Oh it’s just so sad. I was driving our two grandsons back to ours and when I arrived most of the neighbourhood were stood out on the front.

“There were police, firemen, ambulances and a helicopter flying around. It seemed to go on for hours and no one knew what was going on.

“I didn’t know the girl but it’s just such a shock. She was so young; it’s really not what you expect to happen to such a young girl.”

Mr Henderson said: “I can’t even begin to imagine what her parents must be going through. It’s dreadful. It goes to show that anything can happen.”

And James Middleditch, who lives at the end of the road, said: “There was police, a helicopter, firemen; everything. There were so many cars and so many services - it was crazy.

“People didn’t know what happened and were wondering why there were so many services here."

Joan King, Three Rivers District councillor who represents South Oxhey, said: “It’s terrible and so, so sad. My thoughts go out to her family and friends at this hard time.”
