A man from Rickmansworth has been arrested after 25,000 tonnes of waste was illegally dumped in sites across the country.
Raids were carried out by police earlier this morning on properties in Hertfordshire, Herefordshire and Staffordshire after rubbish was dumped in 17 sites in the Midlands and North of England.
One man was arrested in Rickmansworth while another was arrested in Ledbury, Herefordshire, according to the Environment Agency.
The two men have been released pending further enquiries.
A third person is also helping police with their enquiries.
