A popular race will return to Watford.

The Watford 10K – which was cancelled last year – will return to Cassiobury Park on May 1.

The charity branch of Kelly’s Storage, a storage facility company based in St Albans, will be paying for the event so that all money raised can be donated to Watford Mencap.

Moira Martin, the company’s director, said: “We know that the price of these events can be prohibitive for charities.

“We are happy to pay for everything so that all the money given will go straight to Watford Mencap to help them continue with the wonderful work they do in the local community.”

The event, which normally attracts more than 1,000 runners, was cancelled in 2016 due to major works taking place in Cassiobury Park. But with the work now almost complete, the run has been confirmed for the first bank holiday in May.

As always, there are distances for runners of all ages and abilities, with a 1k and 3k run, as well as the longer 10k.

Carol Tunstall, fundraising manager for Watford Mencap, said: “We are so excited that Watford 10k will be returning.

“The run is always so popular and was much missed last year. With the generous support of Kelly’s Storage Charity Events, all of the runners’ entry donations will now go towards helping local people with learning disabilities.”
