George Michael fans will come together to celebrate his life.

The first public memorial for George is due to be held at St James’s Church, Bushey on Sunday.

The day has been organised by the George Michael Appreciation Society, which was created in the wake of George Michael’s death.

This is the first service to be held in his honour since the private funeral held by the family at Highgate Cemetery on Wednesday, March 29 at 3pm.

Group founder Tracey Wills has organised the commemoration with Father Neil Kelley of St James’ Church to give his fans somewhere to express their grief.

She said: “I feel positive that we will get quite a lot of people attending the event because people will want to come together to remember him.

“We discussed whether to have a celebration of his life, or a funeral and I thought we should have a funeral for all of his fans.

“I appreciate that his family wanted privacy, and I totally understand, but we would love them to know that he is so well loved.”

The Society is more than just a fan club, as any money raised from the day will go towards donations to the Terence Higgins Trust, a charity helping people with HIV which the singer contributed to in his life.

The service will consist of a readings and his music and a tribute artist.

They will hold be holding a disco later in the year to raise money to repair the scout hut which he first performed in.

Tracey added: “We want to carry on the good work that he did out of the kindness of his heart and we want to do it in his name.

Father Neil Kelley of St James’ Parish, Bushey said: “This multi-faith service will be an occasion for everyone to come together to remember the person he was.”

A wake will be held in the Three Crowns Pub, High Road, Bushey with refreshments provided by the pub from 4 until 6pm.

The venue was chosen as it was here that George and bandmate Andrew Ridgeley decided to form Wham! in 1981.

Parking will be available in Kemp Place for anyone wishing to attend.
