Members of staff at Peace Hospice Care saluted fundraisers who contributed more than £136,000 to refurbish its inpatient unit.

The extensive work in the unit took six weeks and included each patient room being gutted and completely refurbished with new bathrooms, flooring and fittings, new flooring being installed in the communal areas, new lighting and furniture, and decoration throughout the unit.

The fundraising team at Peace Hospice Care, in Peace Drive, worked tirelessly to secure the funds needed as well as donations of items to support the refurbishment.

The patient facilities in the unit had not been updated in some 15 years and were in desperate need of repair and modernisation.  The modernised patient rooms and bathrooms have created an environment that better supports patients, their families and carers.

Speaking about the support for the refurbishment, Ropinder Gill, fundraising director at Peace Hospice Care, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the support we’ve had for raising funds for this much needed work.

“For the patients, as well as their relatives and friends who come into the unit, a comfortable and calming environment is essential.

“The standard of our facilities in the inpatient unit now matches the high quality care for which we are known. Thank you to everyone who has supported us.”
