A writer of The Simpsons is supporting the campaign to restore the Scout Hut that George Michael first performed in.

Carolyn Omine is donating tickets to her up-coming one-woman show to a raffle to raise money to treat structural problems in the hut.

The tickets will be auctioned at the Three Crowns Pub, High Road on Sunday, April 30 from 4pm following the memorial to be held in St James’ Parish, Bushey at 3pm.

Carolyn’s show One Night Only at the Mermaid will take place in The Mermaid Theatre, Puddle Dock on Saturday, August 5.

The show’s producer Robin Sayer was the inspiration to donate the tickets to raise money to preserve the site.

Carolyn said: “I always knew that he had a beautiful voice, and I like his songs, but Robin would send me things through about his charity work and how kind he was.

“He was charitable in life and set a good example, but to find out how much he did for other people privately, and so many times on a personal level is incredible.

“A Los Angeles charity Project Angel Food that provides food and clothes for people living with HIV has always struggled with funding, and all of a sudden this angel appeared and it was George Michael.”

Carolyn will be performing improve, sketch and stand-up as well as discussing her experience of working on the world-famous cartoon.

There will be four sets of tickets available to win from the pub.

The pub was chosen to host refreshments after the service as this is where George Michael and Andrew Ridgely first formed Wham! and would practice in an outbuilding.

Pub landlord and chairman of the Scout group Michael Duffy said: “George Michael was the first artist to perform in the new Wembley Stadium and I was there to see it.

“It is only now when I talk to people that I fully realise that this is a piece of pop history.

“I have heard so many stories about Wham! in the pub, it’s only when you step back you can see how important have been in the community.”

The hut is still used by the Beathy Heath Scout Group, but the stage which the legendary singer first performed on needs treating for woodworm and will cost £5,000 to repair.

Parking will be available in a public car park 40 yards away from the pub.
