We’ve reached that time of year when frustrated and angry parents are told that their child cannot go to the school of choice.
It used to be just secondary level, now it’s primary too.
My grandson is in pre-school at The Rutts, Bushey Heath Primary. His mother and our other two children all attended there in the 1970s and 80s.
My wife and I were both on the PTA, I was a governor. I humped many a load of concrete and numerous large panels to create fences and a garden shed. We are a committed Rutts family.
Notwithstanding our letter of support for my daughter’s application, my grandson, a few minutes walk from the school, did not get a place.
I wonder what criteria are used in these decisions. No one knows who makes them.
There is no openness about the procedure and appeals may jeopardise offers at other schools. A transparent review is long overdue.
Barry Hyman, Bushey Heath
