Watford posties have begun an epic journey to deliver invaluable supplies to a children’s hospital and orphanage in Eastern Europe.

Abdul Raheem Khalifah, who has been a postman for nearly 20 years, recently received two trolleys filled with provisions from the Morrisons supermarket in Ascot Road, which is also sponsoring the trip.

A convoy of seven vehicles from around the country set off on Wednesday morning for the children’s hospital and orphanage in the city of Riscani in northern Moldova.

They are hoping to arrive on Monday.

The philanthropic postal workers based at the delivery office in Caxton Way have been taking supplies to impoverished countries in Eastern Europe for more than two decades, and have visited a number of different locations.

The supplies they take can range from complex pieces of medical equipment and computers right down to basic food items, toiletries and clothing.
