New Gaelic football and hurling facilities pronounced “amongst the best anywhere” have been opened in Watford.
Deputy mayor Peter Taylor joined the celebrations on Saturday to mark the opening of the Radlett Road facilities, which will provide a new home for Glen Rovers Football Club – one of the town’s oldest and most successful sports clubs.

Cllr Taylor was joined by Tudor ward councillors at the event and saw players aged from five to 60, and of all abilities and backgrounds, come together to take part in their sport.
He then joined Aogán Ó Fearghaíl, president of the international Gaelic Athletic Association who had flown in from Ireland especially for the occasion, in unveiling the new pitch and facilities, which include an on-site kitchen, referee’s room, four dressing rooms, and toilets.
Mr Ó Fearghaíl said: “This is one of the finest developments I have seen anywhere. We are thrilled that Watford Borough Council has been so supportive and so cooperative.
“There has been a great partnership here that has happened between the council and the Gaelic Athletic Association. This is a very historic day.”
Jeremiah Brennan, president of Glen Rovers, said: “The changing rooms are out of this world.
"It is the most beautiful building we have ever stepped inside of in this country as far as Gaelic football dressing rooms are concerned. For that, we want to thank the council most sincerely.”
