An elderly man claims he suffered a tirade of abuse from angry parents after reversing into his daughter's driveway near a Watford primary school.

Puja Bozorgi’s 70-year-old father had been helping with the school run, picking his five-year-old granddaughter up on Tuesday afternoon.

But upon arriving back at their home in Greenbank Road, just three doors down from Holy Rood Catholic Primary School, he found a group of parents and their children chatting and blocking the driveway.

He came to a standstill and waited to allow the group to move before sounding the horn to warn them as he reversed.

CCTV footage shows the group quickly moving out of the way but one mum approaches the car, shouting and pointing while children watch on.

A man then exits his car to join in the rant.

Mrs Bozorgi says her father, whose English is “not fantastic”, was scared to leave the car.

And her young daughter, who was sat in the back at the time, has been deeply traumatised by the incident, suffering nightmares, crying in her sleep and scared to leave the house.

“I cannot fathom how another parent can behave with such contempt for no apparent reason, leaving a five-year-old child with such evident scars,” said Mrs Bozorgi.

“He’s obviously quite shaken up as well. You can see how angry her body language is, making gestures at the car.

“There’s just no reason for it. He hasn’t done anything wrong except sound the horn for everyone’s safety.

“What example is this setting to the children, intimidating an old age pensioner?”

Holy Rood head teacher Stephen Wheatley said: “We are aware of an allegation made by one of our local neighbours in relation to an altercation involving two parents at the school over a parking dispute.

“We do not condone any form of aggression between adults or pupils and are working with the resident and the parents in question to bring about reconciliation between both parties.

“This is an unfortunate incident that is not a true reflection of our parent body or of the very positive relations that we enjoy with our local communities; we are very proud of our work within our local community and this is something that we continue to build upon.”

Hertfordshire Constabulary said the incident had been reported to them and that officers would be visiting the victim on Thursday to get further details.
