Watford Colosseum is to receive a blue plaque.
The plaque will be awarded as part of BBC Music Day celebrations, which recognises historic music venues and their contribution to our cultural heritage.
Acts who have graced the stage include The Who, Elton John and Robbie Williams, and the arena has been used to record soundtracks of blockbusters such as the Lord of the Rings and Star Wars trilogies.
The music venue and theatre was nominated by BBC Three Counties listeners before going through two rounds of selection by expert and national panels.
Derek Nicholls, Chairman of HQ Theatres, which manages the Watford Colosseum, said: “We’re absolutely delighted the Colosseum is to receive a Blue Plaque recognising its status as an iconic music venue.
“Over the years we’ve played host to many world-class musical acts and there’s so much more to come."
The acoustics for the venue are world-renowned and play a part in its attraction for theatre producers, musical acts and orchestras, with the BBC Concert Orchestra using it as a regular home for their concerts.
Mayor Dorothy Thornhill will unveil the plaque on July 3 at a special event at the venue.
