An investigation has been launched after a cat was found mutilated in Watford.

The cat, named Lulu, was found in the North Watford area on Tuesday, June 20, having been missing for a couple of days. It is believed the incident occurred the night before.

PC Simon Craig, from the Watford Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Understandably the owners of the cat were very distressed when they received the terrible news.

“An investigation has been launched and I am appealing for anyone with information to please come forward. It is thought to have happened on the first of the hottest nights last week so perhaps you were out late walking your dog, or opening/closing windows and saw or heard something suspicious.”

He added: “At this time the incident is being linked to an on-going series of similar crimes across the south east which are being investigated by the Metropolitan Police, working with the charity South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty (SNARL), under Operation Takahe.

“Anyone with information about who is responsible is asked to please come forward as soon as possible. If you wish to provide information anonymously, you can do so through the independent charity Crimestoppers.

“If you see anyone acting suspiciously around animals, please report it straight away and take full descriptions of any persons or vehicles involved.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hertfordshire Constabulary non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference C4/17/1741.
