The hub and pools cost £2.8 million to install, and form part of the park’s £6.6 million regeneration project.

Watford Observer:

Schoolchildren became the first users of the pools on the day, clearly enjoying the water despite the chilly temperatures.

Cutting the ribbon to unveil a commemorative plaque, Elected Mayor Dorothy Thornhill urged park users to enjoy a public green space which had once been the “front garden of the high and mighty”, referring to the former owners the Earls of Essex.

Watford Observer:

“I genuinely am passionate about the place where memories are built,” she said, recalling times when she had taken her children to play in the park.

“It’s about building resilient communities that can come together and play together. That is the beauty of this.

“Cassiobury Park is a place of memories, and this will be their park. At the consultation, everybody had views about what the park means to them.”

The water park has 30 state-of-the-art splash pads, jets and fountains along with the paddling pools, as well as “push buttons” to control the water flow so those with disabilities can enjoy a paddle.

The grand opening takes place on Saturday between 11am and 2pm, with live music at the bandstand accompanying the event.
