George Michael fans from across the world are uniting to support charities.

The singer will be remembered with a school disco tomorrow night at Bushey Meads School, Coldharbour Lane.

The event has been put on by George Michael Appreciation Society of Bushey to remember the music legend and raise money for charity.

This party will be held to celebrate the late icon’s birthday on June 25, which could not have been held earlier due to school exams.

The tickets sold out quickly and the society has become a place for people to share their admiration of the former Wham! singer following his death on Christmas day last year.

The event will be raising money for the scout hut used, still used by Bushey ScoutsXX, which was the first place George Michael performed.

Further proceeds will be donated to the Terence Higgins Trust, a charity that campaigns for people living with HIV and an organisation that the singer was a passionate advocate for.

The celebration will have a DJ playing Wham! and solo hits by George Michael, and a screen showing photos of the singer in his former school.

There will also be a tuck shop selling retro sweets and a fully licensed bar and a raffle.

On the society’s Facebook page people from as far as Australia, Switzerland and the USA have announced they will be attending the celebration.

Club founder Tracey Willis said: “This has been a big part of life in Bushey this year. I never imagined that the dream I had after Christmas day is now 24 hours away from reality.

“Everyone has been talking about this for months, and now it has come around so quickly.

“It’s only the start, people have moved on from grieving and something good is able to come out of something bad.”

The group have grown in popularity since it was set up, and were responsible for setting up the first public funeral for the singer at St James’ Church, Bushey in May.

They were mentioned on the Facebook page of George Michael impersonator Wayne Dilks and when he performed at The Alban Arena last Friday there were invited back stage to meet him.

“It is amazing the appreciation there has been, but that is what we are, an appreciation society.”

The society are hoping to organise a dinner and dance at Christmas to continue fundraising in memory of the singer.
