A new on-site nursery has been opened in a science research centre.

The House that Jack Built, which was originally housed in an old test house, has now been opened on the BRE north Watford campus, Bucknalls Lane, in a newly refurbished building.

The nursery for BRE staff originally opened in 1992 after a BRE colleague, Jack Brewster, put forward plans to convert the test house into a crèche, but after 25 years the nursery has outgrown its home, even with a long waiting list for places.

Watford Observer:

Attending the opening was Belinda Phipps, a scientist and chair of trustees at The Fawcett Society, who work to achieve gender equality in the workplace.

Ms Phipps said: "It is fabulous to see a nursery in the heart of a science and engineering company site, making it easy for working mums and dads to have peace of mind at work knowing the great care their children are getting nearby.

"For as long as children are seen as mainly the responsibility of women it's also a great help in increasing the number of women working in science and engineering."

The new House that Jack built nursery has places available at all age groups, especially in the newly enlarged 2-5 year old section, so visit their website for more information.
