Students and teachers from a Watford secondary school staged a 25-hour maths marathon to raise thousands of pounds for charity.
The 24 Year 12 students from Watford Grammar School for Boys, in Rickmansworth Road, sat through 25 hours of maths lessons taught back to back by 34 teachers from all different departments, each putting a twist on their subject.
Highlights included maths with Roman numerals from the classics department, and Braille maths taught by the special educational needs team.
The group, led by head of maths Josh Coren, aimed to raise £2,500 for Great Ormond Street Hospital but they smashed their target, raising nearly £6,000 to date.
Mr Coren commented: “We were inspired to do 25 hours of maths in a row, not just by our love of the subject but because Watford Grammar School for Girls completed a 24 hour maths lesson in 2011. We felt this was an admirable achievement we could only look to beat.
“It’s been great to see other departments from all across our school getting involved, and think this will be a brilliant experience for the boys involved. Not just that but we are raising money for an excellent cause which makes the challenge all the more worthwhile.”
