The Mayor of Watford visited a nursery school to open a new “outdoor learning” garden.
Staff at the Oxhey Early Years Centre, in Eastbury Road, Watford, welcomed Dorothy Thornhill to its Rainbow Garden on Monday July 3.
The garden was provided by The Big Lottery and Tesco Bags of Help Grants and will offer a space for “children’s emotional wellbeing and physical” to develop.
Baroness Thornhill said: “It was a pleasure to open the Rainbow Garden.
“It’s good to see that the “Tesco Bags of Help” money supports the local community – every 5p spent on a shopping bag purchased by local people supported the project and also that the Big Lottery Fund supports small local settings such as Oxhey Early Years Centre”.
“I can see the amount of hard work has gone into the project.”
Head teacher Rachel Fagan added: “Outdoor learning is vital for children’s emotional wellbeing and physical development.
“We have plans for the garden to be used by our children, families and many members of the community as possible.
“The garden is designed to allow full access for all children as part of their experience at Oxhey Early Years Centre."
