Budding writers got the chance to get see their work from another perspective when two groups merged for a flash fiction event.

The current batch of creative writing students at West Herts College joined forces with a group of former students on Wednesday, June 28.

All attendees got the chance to read each other’s work and gained inspiration from their peers.

The classes at the classes give wannabe authors the chance to find their voice and writing style by using a variety through prose and poetry.

The group of former students still meet at the college to encourage each other to write more and hope to garner more members as the current class draws to an end.

The event was overseen by tutor Ian St Peters and events coordinator for the Watford Waterstones Amy Watkins and prizes were awarded for stand-out pieces.

Alumni member Mike Conlan said: “The aim of getting together is to encourage everyone to keep writing as everyone has other commitments in their life so it can be hard to stay focused.

“It’s great as you get to meet people from totally different backgrounds and it was a lovely opportunity to meet the current students.

“It was a fantastic evening, and a good chance to read other people’s work. Hopefully we will do something like this with Waterstones in the future.”
