A Watford woman will join a group of charity trekkers in memory of her father.

Charlotte Wickham, 46, will take part in Peace Hospice Care's Cambodia Challenge in February to raise funds for the charity, after her father passed away in the hospice's inpatient unit in 2015 with Alzheimer's disease.

The group will trek through rice paddies, jungle plains and villages over 10 days to reach Angkor Wat, one of southeast Asia's most impressive sights.

Ms Wickham said: "I cried when he was admitted into the inpatient unit, not because I knew this was the end, but because I was so relieved.

"The level of care my father received was outstanding - the environment was peaceful, tranquil and so friendly.

"The staff were understanding and patient and they made the sad time much easier – nothing was too much. I can’t ever thank them enough for making his last days so peaceful."

Ms Wickham also praised the Peace Hospice, Peace Drive, for the support they gave her family and said she was grateful to have the opportunity to give back.

She added: "I love challenges and new experiences and have thoroughly enjoyed the other treks I completed with the Hospice, including treks to China and Peru.

"I am most looking forward to trekking through the jungle and seeing all the wildlife and the Cambodia Challenge is a great way to raise vital funds for the hospice while going on a once in a lifetime adventure."
