A weekly run for four to 14 year olds has been launched in a park in a bid to keep young people active and healthy.

Leavesden Country Park is now hosting a 2k Junior Parkrun, a spinoff of the Saturday Parkrun, which will be held every Sunday at 9am.

Helen Cox, volunteer event director said: “Our launch event had a fantastic turnout of 73 young people and 23 volunteers.

“The atmosphere was really positive and lots of people said they would be returning for more. It was really inspiring to see the engagement of children and also the commitment of our local community to making the event happen"

Cllr Chris Lloyd, lead member for leisure, said: “I’m absolutely delighted to welcome a junior parkrun to Leavesden.

“I’m passionate about parkrun and the benefits it brings to our communities and would encourage every parent to bring their children along one Sunday and give parkrun a go.

“It’s a fantastic way to keep kids active and healthy.”

Cllr Lloyd added; “We could not do this without the incredible effort of the core volunteer team and on behalf of everyone at Three Rivers I’d like to thank them for taking the time each week to support the event.”
