A "later life hero" was recognised at an awards ceremony in London.

Lynne Misner, founder of Watford-based charity Small Acts of Kindness, was awarded the Later Life Hero and John Ramsay Special Recognition awards at Age UK's Spirit of Age Awards in London on June 28.

The charity, run entirely by volunteers, works with more than 40 organisations in Hertfordshire to source gift bags for older people, including warm clothes and hot drinks to keep them warm in winter, and Christmas presents.

Ms Misner said of winner the awards: "I am honoured to have received these awards and that the work of Small Acts of Kindness has been recognised nationally.

"We are currently urgently seeking new premises for the project and I hope that winning these awards will help us find a new home."

Other partners across the county include Hertfordshire Independent Living Services, Contact the Elderly, Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, Metro Printing and Freedom Communications and the charity has received recognition from the Mayor of St Albans at the 2017 Pride of St Albans awards as well as the Prime Minister's Point of Light award.
