Cuts to various medical services proposed by the area’s clinical commissioning group (CCG) will be discussed at a public meeting this evening.

Herts Valleys CCG is looking to shave £45 million off its running costs by axing, among other services, IVF treatment, stopping the routine funding of vasectomies, and limiting the prescription of food supplements and medicines for short-term conditions.

It is also planning to close Nascot Lawn Respite Centre - which looks after severely disabled children - in October, a decision which has drawn widespread criticism and media attention.

At the meeting, the CCG will propose to “focus funding on those areas which have the biggest impact on the health of our population, and are considering changing access to some services”.

Tonight’s (Monday) meeting will take place in Rickmansworth at Penn Chambers, Three Rivers House, Northway, between 7pm and 9pm.

Another meeting has been scheduled to take place at the Rothamsted Centre in Harpenden at the same time on Monday, July 31.

The public consultation closes on September 14.
