A puppy who has found Instagram fame is set to star in a BBC documentary after being filmed in various different locations around Watford during the first eight months of his life.

Butch Cassidy, who is named after the classic American Western film about a notorious train robber, will appear in the third and fourth episodes of 10 Puppies & Us, which starts on Thursday, July 27 at 8pm.

Owners Bella and Leigh Blackburne, who live in The Reeds, in Watford, signed their pet pug up for the show, which is narrated by Neil Morrissey from Men Behaving Badly, so that people could see his “rise to fame” on Instagram after gaining almost 6,000 due to daily images.

The film crew followed the couple, who work in graphic design and film PR, in their daily lives and will feature clips of Watford Junction and Cassiobury Park.

Mrs Blackburne admitted it took a while to adjust to having the cameras constantly around at first.

She said: “Welcoming Butch into our lives has been an absolute joy. It was a hard decision to agree to this being documented on TV and this certainly came with its challenges, such as having night vision cameras in our bedroom, but we can’t wait to see the final result.

“The crew were so lovely and became such a key part of Butch’s upbringing, helping make him the incredibly social dog he is now.”

“We set up the Instagram page because we’re both into photography and I’m a designer, plus Leigh works in film PR so regularly manages social media campaigns, not to mention occasionally working with performing dogs on his photoshoots.”
