A celebration of all things sci-fi is coming to Kings Langley next weekend.

The convention, Trek-On, is being held at the Rudolf Steiner School on August 19. It promises many guests from Star Wars, Star Trek and Doctor Who, as well as talks, quizzes, a tabletop gaming zone for people to come and experience the wonderful world of tabletop gaming and a video game zone.

Organiser Wayne Emiry is an independent organiser. He has a Star Trek podcast called Trek Mate, which has been going for nearly six years.

He says: “This convention is a realisation of a dream that I first discussed right at the beginning of my podcast journey. I lived in Kings Langley for the majority of my life, I currently live in Hemel Hempstead and work in Watford, and I can’t wait to bring something so big to a community that I love so much.”

One of the Star Wars guests, Andrew Lawden, who played a Naboo Foot Soldier in the 1999 film, Episode I – The Phantom Menace, will be running a Jedi Fight Academy to teach kids and big kids alike how to handle a Lightsaber.

Props from various shows and films will be on display and there will be the most screen accurate replica of the Back to the Future Delorean.

The event will also be raising money for two charities: Tommy’s, which funds research into stillbirth, premature birth and miscarriage, and The Hospice of St Francis.

There will be a charity auction, games to raise money such as “pin the light saber on Darth Vader”, and some guests will even be taking part in photoshoots to raise money.

This is the first event of its kind to ever appear in Kings Langley and it’s the first science fiction convention to ever take place in the Watford area, following on from the success of Watford Comic Con.
