STUDENTS from across St Albans were on tenterhooks this morning as they ripped open their exam grades.

For many, their A-Level results shaped whether or not they got into their first choice university.

St Albans School Sixth Formers achieved a record of 34 per cent of A* grades in this year's results, beating the previous best of 25 per cent in 2015.

Nine pupils achieved four A*s and 22 pupils got at least 3 A*s.

Jonathan Gillespie, headteacher, said: “I am delighted by this year’s outstanding A-Level results, which are testament to the commitment and dedication shown by our sixth formers and our teaching staff.

"I congratulate all our leavers and wish them every success in the future.”
