It’s an issue which road users living in Watford and Garston will be all too familiar with.

The Dome Roundabout is to motorists what a chainsaw-swinging maniac is to a group of teens – an absolute nightmare to be avoided at all costs.

And while that horrific villain is thankfully a work of fiction, the same cannot be said of that never-ending stream of red lights often found circling the dreaded junction at rush hour.

A knight in shining armour may finally be appearing on the horizon though, and in the unlikely form of that local activism mainstay – a petition.

Thanks to the 500-or-so signatures on a piece of paper, county council bigwigs have finally agreed to look at the issue.

The only worry now though is that political wrangling threatens to detract from the matter, as rival gangs fight for ownership of the issue.

This is not a problem which discriminates on whether you prefer the candidate with the red or the yellow rosette – it is universal.

Our representatives should be uniting to speak for Watford, rather than bragging about how their own party is championing the issue more than the other.

And no amount of chest beating or finger pointing will be enough to detract attention if a workable solution fails to materialise on Tuesday.
