A Paralympic archer from Banstead has picked up a nomination for the sports personality of the year at the Asian Achievers Awards.

Tania Nadarajah, 37, originally from Kuala Lumpur but made her international debut for GB in 2015 will attend the annual ceremony on September 22 at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane.

Currently ranked 19th in the world, ‘Lady T’ as the archer is also known, started competing in the sport three years ago ‘and since has scooped a team bronze model at the 2016 European Para Championships, a team bronze at the 2015 Para World ranking event and a place in the Rio qualification tournament at the 2015 Para World Championships.

Now in it’s 17th year the annual event which celebrates Asian excellence has a strong feminine line-up with 22 of the 36 nominees being female contenders including England cricketer Haseeb Hameed and BBC journalist Tina Daheley also being shortlisted.

Bollywood singer, actress and model, Raageshwari will join former EastEnders star actor Nitin Ganatra to host the glittering ceremony, which this year highlights the great strides made in the fields of Media, Art and Culture.

The Asian Achievers Award helps to raise millions of pounds for various charities over the years and has chosen the Akshaya Patra Foundation to be its partner this year which works to eradicate classroom hunger and facilitate childhood education by serving freshly cooked, nourishing lunches to 1.6 million school children across India every day.
