A 60-year-old man will be walking an "impressive" 100km in under 24 hours for charity.

Chris Lloyd, from Croxley Green, will be taking part in the Thames Path Challenge on Saturday, September 9, starting the journey at Putney Bridge, West London and ending in Henley on Thames.

He said: “Of all things I’m doing this year the 100km walk this weekend is the biggest.”

“I’m looking forward to walking with people I haven’t met before and finding out more about them and the charities they’re raising money for.”

“The walk will finish after dark and the weather is forecast to rain which will add to the challenge.”

Chris will be raising money for the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre which supports people affected by cancer.

Chris said: “I have done a number of things for the Linda Jackson charity over a number of years, including walking 30 miles of the Three Rivers District in one day.”

Chris set himself the challenge of walking 600 miles this year after turning 60.

“Last year I walked around 450 miles so this year my family suggested I should go for a larger amount of miles to walk.”

“I’ve been making that up through a number of different walks and runs including the London loop, Jubilee Green Way, the Ginger Line walk, Chess Valley walks and running two 10km’s.”

“I want to encourage and inspire people to set their own challenges. If you haven’t walked much before why not walk the Thames Valley?”

“It would be great for people to sponsor me to help people from Three Rivers and beyond.”
