More than a thousand people from around the country gathered to display their vintage cars a vehicle club’s annual steam fair.

The Watford and District Classic Vehicle Club held its 14th Classics On The Green event, with Carter’s Steam Fair, which was supported by Lookers Jaguar, on Sunday September 17.

A 1961 Austin Healey Sprite Mk 1, owned by Bill Harding, 63, from Chesham, in Buckinghamshire, won the “The Best in Show” award.

Runners up included a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, owned by Gavin Shaw, 50, who visits every year from Farnborough, Hampshire, as well as a 1960 Sunbeam Rapier Convertible Series 3, owned by John Wright, 59, from Penn, Buckinghamshire.

The Vehicle Club, which was founded in 1994 and now has over 150 members, was set up to allow people with classic cars or those who have an interest in them to meet, while raising money for different causes at the same time.

This year’s chosen charities include Diabetes UK, Bloodwise, Alzheimer's Society, Breast Cancer Research and Herts Air Ambulance.

Chris Hardey, chairman of the club, said: “It was a fantastic event with a great turnout of classic cars, families and enthusiasts from all over southern England.

“We are very grateful to all of our sponsors who allow us to return bigger and better every year and would like to thank Lookers Jaguar for their continued support.”

Richard George, head of business at Lookers Amersham, said: “We are delighted to have supported the Watford and District Classic Vehicle Club once again.

“It is extremely important that businesses like Lookers get involved with local organisations and support them. They are part of the local community and so are we.”
