The Minister for Policing and the Fire Service paid a visit to Hertfordshire Constabulary’s HQ to discuss funding and listen to the experiences of officers.

Nick Hurd met Police and Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire David Lloyd, as well as many of the constabulary’s officers at Welwyn Garden City.

The minister is visiting different forces around the country to find out more about police resources and hear stories from the frontline.

He said: “It was a pleasure to visit Hertfordshire Police headquarters and to hear the important views of the frontline officers about the challenges they face. What was clear from discussions is the dedication the officers show to their role and to their communities.

“This meeting is part of a wider programme of engagement I am leading with PCCs and police forces across the country on the changing nature of demand on police resources, the impact of that change and how that can be managed as efficiently as possible. I look forward to working with Hertfordshire police as this work continues.”

Speaking after the meeting, Mr Lloyd added: “It was great to have the minister come and meet our hard-working officers and staff, as well as discuss the important issues in policing today.

“Alongside Deputy Chief Constable Michelle Dunn, we made a strong case about the future of the funding we receive from government, and set out the challenges facing our force.

“I was also able to update the minister on the progress of our submission to the Home Office for the future of fire governance in Hertfordshire.”
